Another observation: It *seems* that booting the older image (git
commit 9f9251e958a194b6ba936715fb25c32077323637, Jun 6th 2023, does
not produce the message

while the -current image does. Did a few reboots between both, but not
enough to claim that as a fact, but merely a hint that there might be
a related change during the last ~ half year.

(Now running idle for a few hours to see whether or not I loose time.
Later on, I'll run that box under load.)

Can't remember if I've seen that specific message in the past, but I've certainly had some other time related messages for many years.
