You can test with gxemul.

cd /usr/pkgsrc/emulators/gxemul
make package
gxemul -e mobilepro770 -X -M 512 hpcmipskernel/netbsd20091130  ... boot OK
gxemul -e mobilepro770 -X -M 512 hpcmipskernel/netbsd20091231  ... boot FAIL
