For the record, I made the commit only to raise these points, not because I
would care whether /usr/share/misc/operator exists or not.

Is it mandatory to subscribe to these lists?

Being naive as I am, I believe a software project can adopt healthier and
more productive "software engineering" practices. Unfortunately many people
are too blind to see any problems.
