I do remember being scolded on one of the netbsd mailing lists for
'making up' my own domain name (which, sadly, did and does resolve
to an existing host on the 'net whereas obviously my "network domain"
were all the boxens on my LAN). IIRC the claim was that either you 
control the network domain fully (i.e., DNS, too), or you don't use
a FDQN (for sendmail's benefit, amongst others, iirc again).

So yeah. If you're following that advice, and you don't control
yaddayadda.com, you'll end up naming your LAN boxens that aren't
accessible from the internet without dots, won't you.

Why am I saying this? I'm trying to make a point that you cannot and
must not argue with the data you're doing, David.
