There are a lot of differences and it looks like a lot of our changes predate gpl2->gpl3 switch in GDB. I have an impression that sometimes we unintentionally revert to an older GDB code. I will start with upstreaming small code chunks first and getting upstream GDB to work on NetBSD/amd64 with its regression tests...
