Chris, I disagree with you on this almost to the point that I want to
strangle you.
We're talking about N0,000 users here. This is not a joke. There is
no room for pet peeves or tiny tweaks to make the world fit your view
at their (great) inconvenience.
A lot of these people probably installed 386BSD + X or NetBSD 0.[89] +
X a long time ago. They will probably install NetBSD 1.0 + X in the
same fashion they did the previous version. What do you think they
are going to do when it breaks? Some of them aren't even on the net
to ask us for help; others won't bother.
Putting that path in ld causes absolutely no inconvenience to anyone,
and saves a ****HELL**** of a lot of hassle for users who won't have
any idea at all what went wrong.
Saying `they are losers and deserve to lose for not reading the fine
print in the release notes' is not an adequate answer, so don't even
bother to say it, or anything isomorphic to it.
As soon as you provide an XFree86 package using the traditional paths,
I will quite gladly remove that path from ld.
