   I thought we started branching xsrc. The cvs log on xsrc/Makefile seems to 
   agree. As such, I don't think -current xsrc should be required to support 
   previous releases anymore.


it was my understanding the branching was done on a per-release
basis.  we still re-branched for each (point) release..  the real
reason i think that xsrc-current should continue to support old
releases is that the upstream wants to, and we don't want to
diverge from them any more than necessary.


it's also been a feature IMO that one could update to a newer
(netbsd) X11 on older releases...
