Don't know about this, can you do

ln -s A /etc/malloc.conf

and try login again. This should cause it do dump core (remember to
remove that symlink).

It would be interesting to know where it gets that error. It's
probably too much work to recompile with debug, but you could run
ktrace on passwd. Are you running a kpasswdd?

The warning is just that, it should work anyway.

These are krb4 services, that should go away.
