OS/K (OS-9 for M68K) used base register and relative branching to
allow for position independence.

At the time I preferred the M68K over the x86 method, as the use
of 32 registers to 'go anywhere in the address space' seemed better
than the the ES:DX or whatever that one was required to do for the
x86.
