Many SoC have legacy devices whose design is derivative of old (sometimes ancient) products. When I looked at the AT91 I found the serial device circuit has no common with popular serial variations. Later I recognized that it's a copy of 8/16 bit microcontrollers. Toru Nishimura/ALKYL Technology
