Why is this even done at all?  In the old shell version, this was done
because they were needed to extract sets.  But, in the sysinst world
(and in the MI miniroot install.sh that I wrote around a year ago), they're
not needed, and not used, and only clutter up the new installation with
unnecessary dot files and binaries (like /sysinst :-)

I think that this should just be removed.
