This is a quick note to let you all know that my proposal for system
packages has not fallen completely by the wayside.
My fiance and I have just finished moving, and are beginning to take
our lives (and our machines) back out of little cardboard boxes. With
this out of the way, I intend to resume work on System Packages this
weekend.
The general resolution so far seems to be that everyone agrees on what
system packages should be like (Exactly like third party packages in
format, fine grained, etc. -- see the proposal I posted here a couple
of weeks ago), but there is still some debate as to the format of the
distribution sets to be made up of these packages.
I now intend to begin work on the parts of the system that everyone is
more or less agreed on. This work will begin in earnest this weekend,
and I will be posting here with regular status reports.
I will also be posting a set of notes this weekend summarizing the
discussion so far, and discussing the design decisions involved in the
work I will be doing now. I would appreciate it if the discussion on
this could wait until I post these notes, so that there is a general
understanding of what is being done. (If what I'm doing is a bad idea,
fire away, but don't shoot until you see what it is).
