I presume you mean a PS/2 mouse port.

You have to enable the device in your kernel config file. The spot
where you have to do that is (reasonably) well commented. It is
disabled by default because people have problems with the probe on
occassion (or at least used to -- I think it has been fixed.)

Before you come back with another FAQ request, btw, as it turns out,
you have to tell XFree86 that this mouse is a Busmouse and not a PS/2
mouse because our driver makes the one format look like the
other. (Don't ask. I now agree that it is stupid that we do this.)
