On 16-May-99 Simon Burge spoke unto us all:
# In the next couple of days I was going to send something to tech-install
# about making a better disklabel editor for sysinst, but also something
# that could handle multiple disks.
Actually.. I'm glad you posted before doing any actual work on it yet..
I'm currently working on a curses-based disklabel program now.. The idea is to
be somewhat of a cross between solaris format, and AIX smit.. I'm a good 50%
finished with it.. so I'd hate to see someone waste thier time, (or my time) on
a totally separate version..
If you are fully intent on working on such a thing.. then I'd like to extend an
offer to you (Simon) to coordinate and work together on it, rather than working
on completely separate duplicate code(funtionality?).
#
# Hopefully sysinst will get to the stage where it's a useful program on
# an installed system as well (adding new packages, (re)configuring system
# config files) - maybe it would be good enough to keep disklabel(8) and
# use sysinst for more complex tasks. Of the top of my head, making
# something that can handle multiple disks as a standalone program seems
# like overkill and would probably make integration with sysinst harder,
# but I'm open to ideas...
I'd like to see that as well.. and I consider this both a first step.. and a
possible prototype for future uses.
