In principle, any platform with floppy hardware could want them.

Long term I prefer a portable file splitter that we can provide
in source & binary form, and let everyone split their own files.

I have something that'll do this (and quite a bit more), I really
should get around to resurrecting it during the 1.5 alpha period.
