Yes -- gzip, gunzip and gzcat are there.
They are symlinked to /bin/cat which is a link to the ramdiskbin.

rainier:/mnt$ ./usr/sbin/gunzip   # /mnt is the mounted vnode disk
gunzip: compressed data not read from a terminal. Use -f to force
decompression.
For help, type: gunzip -h
