The ramdisk approach works(!),
and the CD can be removed after loading (which I find nice).
There's no need for a compressed vnd image, for ~50-100MB of
already-copmressed data.
Plan B would be to put a kernel and extracted sets on the CD and boot from
int like from a harddisk. That would (probably) work.
