That isn't a problem if we take the current image a few 100k over it's
current 2.8MB limit.

The real benefit of the ramdisk-in-kernel is the simplicity of network
booting the kernel image.  If you are going to install over the network
this makes immense sense.
The memory use isn't really a problem either, if we have to use
install-tiny on 16MB systems it won't be the end of the world.
