The issues of 'supporting multimedia' and 'FP in the kernel' are
completely distinct. The latter should not be necessary for the former.
Arguably the latter should not be necessary full-stop for a portable
high performance multimedia system.
I don't know if the BeOS uses FP in its kernel, and we're quite unlikely
to know. However it only runs on 2 (historically 3) platforms and is
kept under tight control.
