This wouldn't help for the situation of the CD-ROM/XA disks I described :-(.
At least not without quite a bit of hackery to the 9660 filesystem.
On CD-ROM/XA disks, there are files with a logical sector size of 2048
bytes and files with a logical sector size of 2332 bytes _in the same
filesystem_!
I have to admit that I don't have any good idea on how to support this.
