He's working soft updates in FreeBSD (after being paid by Whistle to
port it to FreeBSD), and has also been doing some other FS maintenance
with us. His present FreeBSD-related projects are AFAIK
* Fix stacking layers in FreeBSD (in cooperation with Matt Dillon,
  mainly - I've done some related work)
* Incorporate snapshot support
* Get fsck to be able to run in the background (for fast recovery)

He's also using FreeBSD to teach his kernel internal courses.

I don't know exactly why he's chosen to work with FreeBSD rather than
NetBSD or OpenBSD (or BSDi, but I don't know how much he's working
with them) at this time; I hope he'll end up working somewhat with all
the projects, in order to avoid hard feelings with people working in
the other projects.
