As some might have guessed (and/or expected 8-), i've gotten really
busy at work with stuff other than this, and so haven't had much time
to even think about it.

If somebody else wants to run with it, go ahead, otherwise i'll
probably look at it again in a few weeks.  (It's not obvious to me
that it's time-criticial, use for clocks notwithstanding.  8-)
