Actually, it occurs to me that this is, in fact, possibly best done
with the properties system that should be coming along before _too_
long...  8-)

You might delay implementation of this for a little bit, or mark it as
XXX "to be nuked as soon as properties are workable for PCI
attachment"...  8-)
