ld.so is functionally almost equivalent, and without side
effects of COMPAT_AOUT. For continual use, the ld.so solution
is much better. COMPAT_AOUT might help during the transition
somewhat, but could be simulated with chroot environment in most cases
as noted by Matt.
Besides the Todd's live system upgrade, I've not seen yet
any example of COMPAT_AOUT being more functional/usable than
ld.so solution.
Unless anyone would provide any example of COMPAT_AOUT use which
are needed and can't be simulated with ld.so (&chroot) or further
objections would be raised, I will remove COMPAT_AOUT code next
weekend (16-17.3.2002). I'll also remove the path translation
hooks from COMPAT_AOUT_M68K. I don't want that code to be carried
over to 1.6.
