Maximum supported memory size is indeed port-specific. I am not
able to comment on NetBSD/sparc, but NetBSD/i386 supports up to 4G
of RAM in NetBSD 1.6. For example, ftp.netbsd.org runs on i386
machine with (nearly) 4G of memory.
