   The idea isn't. I guess that there are more archs with an internal speaker
   than i386... isn't it? At least, sysbeep manpage says that alpha supports
   it.

the same could be said for, eg, machdep.booted_kernel.
   
   So, maybe that should be moved to machdep.*.
