It seems to me that's only if you _probe_ them in parallel. As long as
the actual probing is serialized and done in a predictable order, there
should be no problem with doing the two-second sleeps in parallel.
At least as far as I can see.
Whether the proposed change does that, I haven't looked at it in enough
detail to say.
