I don't know LFS enoguh to comment on it.  But I don't think FFS is; it
has too many data structures that must live at fixed offsets in the
filesystem (fixed at newfs time, that is, and unchanging for the life
of the filesystem).

These probably could be fixed, but there wouldn't be much of FFS left;
it would be only marginally less work than designing something more
suitable from scratch (perhaps with some ideas stolen from FFS).
