I should mention that maybe the ideal scenario for testing the
midi work would be to use the next couple of weeks (say) for
testing on the branch, with the testing focus being to make sure
I haven't spoiled anybody else's day, and then think about merging
it to -current so it will be easily available to more people to
continue poking and prodding the new functionality.

So even simple testing, just to make sure it compiles and doesn't
break things on your platform, is most welcome at this stage!
