Yes, the chroot (sysctl init.root) is mentioned in the PR.

Hmm.. I know at least one other person who runs a similar setup,
albeit on i386, and I don't believe he's been having the same problem.
Whatever the cause it; I find it pretty interesting[*] that:
1) My "jan" user is not affected (because it belongs to wheel?)
2) Logging out my "jan" user will cause the bug to temporarily disappear.
[*] In the sense that Ebola is an interesting disease.
