Ethernet has a 32bit CRC to it is 1 in 2^32..... somehwat unlikely
(especiallly since you aren't seeing timeouts)
FWIW I've seen a VMEbus ethernet card that had problems driving
the data bus - a repeated 0xff, 0xff, 0x00 pattern got corrupted!
(I kept that board in my cupboard - didn't want it anywhere near
the spares loop!)
