The bind9 logging and the debugging are intensely programmer centric.
Marc Andrews and ISC have acknowledged this. They have resources, but
seem limited. I'm hoping that ISC will make their relationship with
the open source community more clear.

We, as people who deploy bind, need to work with them to improve
these messages. There are some technical problems with the way some
of the things are stored that makes it hard to trivially (i.e. without
excessive computation, and allocation of memory for buffers) dump internal
structures. I'm told that "bitstrings" are one of the reasons for this,
and they have been obsoleted.

I don't have a problem with having bind9 in the source tree. I don't see
us switching to it for awhile yet. (even though I run it everywhere)

I think that for operational reasons, having people maintain pkgsrc/net/bind9
is probably better for the next 18 months or so. Perhaps we will pick bind9
for 1.7/2.0/7.0/10.0/son-of-fred/etc.
