That's what I had expected, too.

I just noticed something what really looks like a bug to me:

$ ifconfig vr0
vr0: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
	[...]
	inet 192.168.0.1 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.0.255
	inet alias 192.168.0.2 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.0.255
	inet alias 192.168.0.3 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.0.255

$ ifconfig vr0 inet 192.168.0.1/24
$ ifconfig vr0
vr0: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
	[...]
	inet 192.168.0.2 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.0.255
