I know you saw objections to SLIP removal and withdrew the proposal, but
for the record I too would like it to stay.  It's really longstanding
and simple, and I don't think it hurts much.  With the brave new world
of tiny microcontrollers the idea that something else does slip and not
ppp is not crazy.
