I installed the mpg123 package and attempted to use it in a system
without a soundcard (I didn't realize that I hadn't put it back in...),
and instead of telling me that I don't have a soundcard, it just fails
with 'No supported rate found!'.

Since I didn't realize there was no soundcard at this point, I tried
building a non-package version from the distributed sources.  This
obviously didn't work either, but produced a much more meaningful
error message 'audio: Device not configured'.

Any ideas why the package version does this?
