Well, whatever it was, it's fixed now.  I just sup'd the latest pkgsrc
and tried again.  I had done the sup previous to that on 19990606 0600
CDT, and the Makefile and such on the latest sup are timestamped 47
minutes later...

So close, and yet, so far.  :-)
