Changes to the Packages Collection in November 1999
===================================================

Things have been quite busy on the package front - at the beginning of
the month we noted that some patches were being applied with "fuzz
factors", which ignore any context when applying patches to package
source - for obvious reasons, we decided to get rid of "fuzzy
patches".  Many thanks to Rene Hexel for doing this.

A buffer overrun has been found in the rsaref package. Anyone using this
package should upgrade to the newer version immediately. Specifically,
the list of packages which can depend on the rsaref package include at
least:

	security/openssl
	security/pgp2
	security/ssh
	www/ap-ssl
	archivers/hpack
	net/ppp-mppe/Makefile
	net/speakfreely-crypto/Makefile
	net/irrd/Makefile
	security/ssh-ip-tunnel

(Thanks to Bill Sommerfeld for the information). Also, itojun has fixed
a buffer overrun in uucplock which affected the following packages:

	pkgsrc/x11/xmindpath
	pkgsrc/graphics/camediaplay
	pkgsrc/misc/snooper

Again, users of these packages should upgrade to the latest versions.

Thanks to Hubert, new binary packages now include an idea of the size
that will be taken up by the installed package (and any 
pre-requisites).

Major additions to the packages collection include:  ap-dtcl, bind8,
a whole gamut of digital camera packages, cgilib, cint, cups, gdm
and other gnome applications, a gnome meta package, gphoto,
ipv6socket_scrub, a number of KDE applications, lame-gui, libnet,
pchar, ploticus, psify, rrdtool, smtpfeed, staroffice, wakeup,
windowmaker applications, xcruise, xipdump, xmon and xscript.
Major packages updated include:  afterstep-current, analog, apache,
bind8, control-center, db2, delegate, ee, enlightenment, ethereal,
exim, fetchmail, gif2png, glade, gnome, kaffe, lame, lesstif, lsof,
lukemftp, lyx, mutt, ne, ntp4, openssl, pico and pine, pth, samba,
squid, vim, wwwoffle, xmame, xpmroot, xsane, screensaver.

And so to the package of the month award:  winner of the "quirk of the
month" is xcruise (pkgsrc/x11/xcruise) - try it, you'll see why, and
thanks to Christoph Badura for naming wwwoffle (pkgsrc/www/wwwoffle)
as the package of the month - a simple proxy server designed for
dial-up internet links.
