Yes, works for me too.
Seems this is documented nowhere and the PHP3/MySQL FAQ's point in the
wrong direction.
Either www/php3-mysql or database/mysql or both messages should be updated
to point to this configuration, probably the other DB backends can be
handled just the same.

P.S.: different question: into what category would phpMyAdmin fit (a PHP3
based MySQL server admin tool; something like what "SWAT" is to Samba but
for MySQL)
