Hi,

some days ago, it was a discussion on freebsd-arch (as I remember)
about providing some part of the FreeBSD userland (almost all contrib
stuffs) as some sort of module (even ports !). an interesting link to
SVR4 packaging tools was posted (details below). so, I've take a look
at the code and it needs some work to be ported to BSD platforms.
since the license isn't clear, I'm asking SCO about the status of this
open source software. before to go forward, I'm asking you if you're
interested by such tools which seems to be almost the same as the one
found under Solaris ?

Hi Cyrille,

The release of the pkgtools source was initiated at the behest
of the 86Open group (http://www.telly.org/86open/86open-faq.html).
The subsequent, uh, dissolution of this project (or transformation
into lxrun/LKP) resulted in an unfinished release of these tools.

I would concur that a BSD license would be appropriate but i'll
need to obtain approval and find the time. It might help me speed
things along if you were able to tell me why these tools are
important for the *BSD systems.

At any rate, i would recommend against putting any effort into a
port until i get the license situation straightened out.
