tech-pkg: libpthread Undefined symbol "sigwait" problem

Trying to run ${pkgsrc}/chat/ser gives this syslog error:

Aug  5 11:53:44 kirk ser: ERROR: load_module: Undefined symbol "sigwait" 

This seems to be related to libpthread. SER is working on -current.
I found some problems with sigwait in the archives, but could not
find the solutions.
  
Any ideas how to resolve this? I would prefer to run ser on -stable.
My -stable has pth-2.0.0nb1.
