Greetings Earthling,
You finally got it to not barf (this was on 1.6.2/macppc) in the build
process; GREAT!
Gentoo's portage has not yet changed the default version to 3.0 yet; I
however have used 3.0 on an OpenBSD 3.3 system and and on my Gentoo box (one
of the machines that NetBSD/hp700 doesn't support) and have noticed no
difference (I don't really use advanced shell scripts though (although on a
linux box /bin/sh is (usually) really /bin/bash)).
If it's not too many extra bits though; I'd leave the choice around (assuming
quarterly freezes) up until 2005Q1.
