Owning a NS 3.3 "Black hardware" box, and an intel running NS 3.3, I can only
agree, and I'd be interested to help out, 

BUT:

There's the culprit: Modern gcc doesn't support nextstep anymore.

perl56 used to build straight out of the box - perl58 shouldn't be that
much of a problem :)
