Mac OS X is already using GNU patch...  And so are most other
operating systems, so I guess the patches would fail to apply
there too.

Besides, the pkgsrc documentation claims that the patches should
be "in diff -bu format, and apply without a fuzz".  This has
not been true for the patches that failed on Mac OS X, so I think
re-generating them is the "correct" solution.
