Just so that everyone knows, Solaris support was originally written for
Solaris 2.6. Getting rid of the 9-char limit would be great - thanks to
Bill for looking at this.

To be quite blunt, the 9-char limit is such a pain, when the ticker
symbol is added in, that it becomes a 5 or 6 char limit, and that is
nowhere near enough room, so I think the SVR4_PKGNAME should just be
ignored for Solaris packages.
