(b)make accepts almost everything, including garbage (see

It's not about what we can do for (b)make, but what we can do for the 
_humans_ that occasionally read the files. I find the block-oriented 
style much easier to read (see 
http://mail-index.netbsd.org/tech-pkg/2005/12/02/0034.html, first 
section, for a related issue).
