Some days ago I inquired about the use of this kind of parameter
expansion and people agreed, that shells, like Solaris' /bin/sh, which do
not support this are not usable for pkgsrc anyway.
At the moment the loop runs completely inside the shell (unless ${TEST}
or ${ECHO} are external commands). I do not know how many libraries a
package has to provide so that a call to sed would be more efficient...
