fonts/dejavu-ttf on Mac OS X

Greetings,

On Mac OS X, I am trying to install databases/rrdtool, which depends on 
fonts/dejavu-ttf. The font requires X11 directory structure, but I all my 
packages are 100% X11 free (I have even removed all default X11 installations). 
So the build fails.

I started wondering if lib/X11/fonts really is a perfect place for installing 
fonts. Wouldn't it be better if fonts have been installed in LOCALBASE instead 
of X11BASE?

Or maybe the problem can have a different work-around?

Please, advice. :)
