The final conversion will (I think) be a fresh conversion, so you'll
have to do a new checkout.

After that, the hg repository will be the master and hg checkouts will
need no further changes.

I don't know what kind of changes in a hg repository would cause us to
need a new, clean behind the git-cinnabar converter - I hope there are
no such changes.
