Well, actually, it was partly my fault too; I asked the wrong question.
I did ask specifically about wire protocols, but that was my fault for
not noticing that implementation issues that aren't visible on the wire
can affect interoperability - and NFS assuming UID 0 deserves special
treatment is a good example.
