Thanks for the feedback folks.
I've dropped the change to .NOTPARALLEL since I know
at least dh didn't like that, and it can be achieved other ways.

Christos, I fixed the spaces in the function definitions,
but I can't spot where I got indentation wrong in a continuation line?

Oh and mouse, yes I've used the X != trick for years too,
but .warning etc are pretty handy for the amount of code.
